Cracked Tooth

Do not chew ice! Teeth can crack in very painful and non-restorable ways from chewing ice or hard candy.  Biting in just the right direction can split a tooth, usually one with a large silver filling.

It is very important to get crowns (caps) done when suggested.  Teeth not adequately supported and protected have problems such as the photo shows below, and can result in tooth loss (extraction) and the need for a more lengthy and costly treatment  fixed bridge or implant.

The crack runs under where a large silver filling was.
This tooth was lost as the crack extended into the roots
of the tooth and was non-restorable.
